The official inmate search tool for Los Angeles County is the LASD Inmate Information Center. This is a free, government-operated service. Never pay a third-party website for inmate information that is available at no cost from the official county source.

   Go to https://app5.lasd.org/iic/ in your web browser. This is the official LASD Inmate Information Center operated by Los Angeles County. It is completely free to use. Do not pay any third-party website — the official search costs nothing.

   Complete any security verification

   Some official portals require you to solve a CAPTCHA or click a verification checkbox before searching. Complete this step if prompted. This is a standard security measure to prevent automated access.

   Enter the person's information

   The LASD Inmate Information Center allows you to search by: full name, booking number, date of birth. Enter the person's full legal last name in the last name field. Adding the first name will significantly narrow your results. Use the person's full legal name — not a nickname or alias.

   Click Search and review the results

   Click the Search or Submit button to run your search. A list of matching inmates currently in Los Angeles County custody will appear. Review the results carefully and look for the correct person by confirming their full name and date of birth.

   Click the person's name to view full booking details

   Click on the correct person's name in the results list. This opens their full booking record, which typically includes their current facility location, booking number, arrest date, charges, and bail amount (if set).

   Write down the booking number

   The booking number is the most important piece of information on the record. Write it down immediately. You will need it to schedule visits, set up phone call accounts, send mail, and communicate with the facility.

   Check the data freshness

   The LASD Inmate Information Center updates every 2-4 hours. If you searched immediately after an arrest, the person may not appear yet — new bookings typically take 2 to 8 hours to become visible depending on how busy the facility is.

   If no results are found

   If the person does not appear in the search results, they may not yet be processed into the system, may have already been released, or may be held in a city or municipal jail rather than a county facility.
